About Us

The Research Ethics Committee of Galen Academy (CEP da Galen Academy) is an independent, interdisciplinary, technical-scientific, deliberative and consultative body. This committee was created to defend the interests and rights of research participants, guaranteeing their well-being and dignity. The Ethics Committee contributes to the development and quality of research in accordance with ethical standards (Law 14.874/2024, CNS resolutions nº 466/2012 and nº 370/2007 and operational standard nº 1/2013 of the Ministry of Health/National Health Council/National Research Ethics Commission).

Registration and Accreditation

On November 8, 2019, the National Research Ethics Commission (CONEP) approved the registration of the Ethics Committee of the Escola Paulista de Ciências Médicas (EPCM), with its registration renewed on April 26, 2023. The EPCM Ethics Committee underwent a change of institution to Galen Academy Excelência em Ensino LTDA and was renamed the Research Ethics Committee of Galen Academy (Galen Academy REC). This change was approved by CONEP on January 3, 2025.

Responsibilities of the REC

The Research Ethics Committee is responsible for ensuring that research is conducted ethically, transparently, and responsibly. The responsibilities of the Committee include:

  • Review and evaluation of research projects: Analyze and evaluate research projects to ensure they are ethical, legal, and scientifically valid.
  • Issue ethical opinions: Provide ethical reviews of research projects, including recommendations for approval, rejection, or required modifications.
  • Monitor research: Oversee ongoing research to ensure it is conducted ethically and responsibly.
  • Investigate reports: Investigate reports of ethical violations or irregularities in research.
  • Develop ethical guidelines: Create and update ethical guidelines for research conduct.
  • Training and education: Provide training and education in research ethics for researchers and other professionals.
